The Newton Police Department conducted various checkpoints on Friday, Dec. 26, leading to the arrest of a Newton man, according to a Newton Police Department press release.
According to Chief McKenzie Patrick, Cory Antonius Taylor was charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana while in possession of a firearm after being stopped at a checkpoint conducted on Scanlan Street and Richarson Street just at 8:10 p.m.
Patrick added that the arrest is one step in the direction to his goal of making Newton a safer place.
“The Newton Police Department has been very intentional on being proactive and seen throughout the community during this holiday season,” said Patrick. “It had yielded drugs and high-powered weapons being removed from our community. The job is not done yet; there is more work to be done.”
