Since 1977, Union Country Day has stood as a hallmark of small-town pride, tradition, and community spirit — and this past weekend’s festivities proved the legacy is still going strong.
From the early morning 5K to the mule pull, live music, and rows of food vendors downtown, the event was packed with activities for all ages.
Country Gal & Boy Contest
Among the most beloved traditions for the week was the annual Country Gal and Country Boy contest, where some of Newton County’s youngest citizens took center stage.
Winners were announced across several age divisions, with proud parents and grandparents cheering from the crowd.
Elizabeth Mae Scrivner was named Baby Country Gal. She is the daughter of Stan and Allison Scrivner.
First alternate: Maeley Williams, daughter of Nathan and Erica Williams
Second alternate: Ryleigh Allyn Davis, daughter of Brandon and Bailey Davis
Brooks Rigdon was named Baby Country Boy, son of Ethan and Samantha Rigdon.
First alternate: Luke Rigdon, son of Taylor and Brooke Rigdon
Second alternate: John Michael Rigdon, son of Melodie Rigdon
In the Tiny Country Gal division, Pipa Purvis took the crown. She is the daughter of Matt and Haley Purvis.
First alternate: Harper Lou McKee, daughter of Ethan and Ashley McKee
Second alternate: Macie Cain, daughter of Chris and Megan Cain
Racyn Smith earned the title of Tiny Country Boy, son of Ashley Terrell and Dustin Smith.
First alternate: Wylder Wallace, son of Lee and Ashton Wallace
Penelope Purvis was named Little Miss Country Gal, also the daughter of Matt and Haley Purvis.
First alternate: Ellie Grace Sullivan, daughter of Braxton and Shelby Sullivan and Sarah Burrage
Second alternate: Preslee Robinson, daughter of Zach and Sandy Robinson
In the older age groups, Paislie Reed was crowned Junior Miss Country Gal. She is the daughter of Lexie Reid and Brandon Tatum.
The title of Miss Country Gal 2025 went to Ada Morrison, daughter of Ryan and Tiffany Morrison.
Mule Pull
The weekend also featured the fan-favorite Mule Pull at Union City Park, where the winners of the three classes in the competition were Andy Harrison, Laramie Kinchen, and Ag Drewery. Each of the winners received $130.
With stars in the sky and music on the stage, Union Country Day 2025 wrapped up with plenty of laughter, memories made, and a strong reminder of what makes this hometown tradition so special.
