It was a busy week for the Lake softball team as they played four games and brought home three wins.
On the flip side, it was a rough week for the Lake baseball team who lost two games to Clarkdale.
Softball
The Lady Hornets got in four games last week and won three of those, beating Scott Central 24-11 and Newton 15-0 and 19-1. They lost Sebastopol 7-0 on Friday.
On Tuesday, Lake hammered out 23 hits and took a 24-11 win over Scott Central. Lake scored 10 runs in the top of the first and led 12-8 after four innings. Lake added five in the fifth and seventh and two in the sixth. Adyson McKnight was 4-for-4 at the plate while Amaue’i Jones was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Kinsley Woods was 3-for-5 with a double, five runs scored and four RBIs while Ceely Graham was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. Alyssa Sockey, Lydaysha Thames and Daelyn Earls each had two hits. Jacey Wells startednad pitched the first inning while Alaina Alford pitched the last six innings and got the win.
On Thursday, Lake beat Newton 15-0 in three innings. Lake scored four in the first, eight in the second and three in the third. Lake had eight hits, led by Amaue’i Jones was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Lydaysha Thames doubled and scored three runs. Jacey Wells also had two RBIs. Daelyn Earls pitched all three innings and gave up two hits to get the win.
In the second game of the doubleheader on Thursday, Lake won 19-1. Lake scored two in the first and finished with 17 in the third. Lake had 11 hits as Ceely Graham was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs while Addyson McKnight was 2-for-3 with a double. Amaue’i Jones was 2-for-3 with a two RBIS. Alyssa Sockey tripled and had four RBIs while Kinsley Woods tripled and scored three runs. Graham pitched three innings and gave up one run on four hits while striking out five.
On Saturday, Sebastopol took a 7-0 win over the Lake on Friday. Lake had seven hits as Adyson McKnight was 2-for-3 while Kinsley Woods also doubled. Jacey Wells started in the circle and pitched six innings and gave up six runs on nine hits while Alaina Alford pitched the last inning.
Baseball
The Hornets ran into a buzzsaw last week, falling two games to Clarkdale in district play.
On Tuesday, Clarkdale took a 4-1 win over the Hornets in district play. Clarkdale scored two in the first, one in the third and fifth innings. Lake had three hits the contest, led by J.D. Gibson who was 2-for-3 while Kasen Tune also doubled. Tune started on the mound and pitched all seven innings and gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
On Friday, Clarkdale scored four runs in the first inning and took a 5-0 shutout win over Lake to sweep the series. Lake had just one hit, a single by J.D. Gibson. Wes Nester pitched all six innings and gave up five runs on five hits while striking out three.
