In just over two weeks, the United States will celebrate its 249th year of independence. And on July 3, area patriots and fireworks enthusiasts will get the opportunity the be the first to celebrate our great nation as Turkey Creek Water Park hosts its annual Independence Day Fireworks Show. The fireworks show is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. and the cost for admission for each vehicle is $10.
Prior to the fireworks show, Turkey Creek Park Director Pam Engle said they will have plenty of food, activities for kids, and some entertainment to entice people to beat the crowd and spend a part of their day with them.
“We encourage people to come out early and spend the day with us and not to wait until the last minute because it does create a traffic jam,” Engle said. “Last year we had well over 600 paying vehicles, not counting people already here camping, sponsors, and people that were helping us out.”
On the afternoon of July 3, The National Guard Kids Zone will be set up to allow kids to partake in fun activities. Beginning around 3 p.m., food trucks will be set up to provide food and drinks, including Mando’s, the Juicy Guru, Munchies N’ More, and Early Bird Brew.
New to the Independence Day festivities this year is a live band, Good Hope Band, to entertain the crowd with a blend of country and oldies rock and roll music. Good Hope, who hails from Lake and is sponsored by Maters & Taters, will prime the crowd up for the fireworks show with a concert at 7 p.m. and provide patriotic music during the fireworks show.
As for the fireworks show, Engle said that she heard through the grapevine that it’s going to be better than last year’s show.
“I was told that we’re supposed to get a little bit more added to it,” said Engle. “Artisan Pyrotechnics out of Wiggins provides our fireworks and they seem to outdo themselves every year.”
As she puts the final touches on the water parks big Independence Day celebration, Engle expressed excitement for the upcoming show and gratitude for the sponsors who helped them provide all the fun.
“We certainly appreciate our sponsors. They have been great this year,” she said. “Without them, none of this is possible.”
