A local man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after an alleged shooting on Saturday, March 16 that left one person injured, according to Newton County Sheriff Joedy Pennington.
Pennington said deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. to a disturbance at a residence on the 7000 block of Hickory Little Rock Road. An argument reportedly broke out between Jason Way and Jacob Cleveland, during which Way allegedly fired two shots at Cleveland, striking him once in the left hand.
Way then left the residence but was stopped a short time later by Sheriff Pennington and another deputy near Beulah Baptist Church on Hickory Little Rock Road and he was taken into custody.
Authorities say Way was previously out on bond for a possession charge and appeared in court Monday. A justice court judge set his bond at $65,000 for the aggravated assault charge. The case will be presented to the next grand jury.
