Mississippi’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December 2022 was 4.0 percent, increasing 0.1 percent from November. When compared to one year ago, the rate has decreased seven-tenths of a percentage point from 4.7 percent, as reported in December 2021.
According to Mary Willoughby, Chief Economist with the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the reported unemployment numbers is good news. “The unemployment rates for Newton County and throughout the state of Mississippi were low in 2022, “Willoughby said. “And this indicates a strong economy.”
