SENATOBIA, Miss. – East Central Community College dropped its second straight game to open the season with a 29-10 loss at No. 7 Northwest Mississippi on Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.
The Warriors (0-2) fell behind early after a 13-play, 81-yard drive capped by a Rangers touchdown midway through the first quarter. Kicker Connor Mullins put ECCC on the board in the second with a 35-yard field goal, but Northwest carried a 13-3 lead into halftime.
Quarterback Brady Hammonds sparked East Central late in the third quarter, finding receiver Eelijah Singleton for a 44-yard touchdown that cut the margin to 20-10. Singleton led all receivers with nine catches for 104 yards and the score.
Northwest (2-0) answered with two fourth-quarter scores and finished with 439 yards of total offense, including 319 on the ground. East Central was limited to 175 yards, with Hammonds throwing for 204 but taking five sacks.
On defense, Elgin McDuffey, Tai Terrell and Kristian Dillard each collected seven tackles, while Delvin Whitaker and Elijah Glover combined for three sacks. Mullins also averaged 46.6 yards on eight punts.
