The ECCC College golf team opened the 2023-24 conference season with a bang this week as the team won the opening MACCC event by five strokes in a 10-team field.
The tournament, hosted by East Mississippi Community College, was held at the prestigious Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, and is the first ECCC golf tournament victory since 2003.
The Warriors kicked off the two-day event with a tournament-leading 306 and backed it up with a 313 on day two for a two-day total of 619.
Individually, the Warriors were led by Will Thompson who carded a 147 after firing rounds of 74 and 73. Thompson fell in a playoff for medalist honors for a solo second place finish. Ashley Head shot a 72, 80, 152 and tied for fifth, while Braxton Cornish shot a 78, 79, 157 and tied for 11th. Jamie Stance finish tied for 15th individually, while Paul Swanepoel tied for 21st. Hayes Nance posted a 32nd place finish, Lane Moore finished 35th, and Peyton Herrington finished 46th.
Thompson and Head earned All-Tournament Team honors for their top-five finishes.
