It was another good week for the Lake baseball and softball teams.
The Hornets won all three games they played last week, sweeping Scott Central 17-1 and 16-2 while finishing with a 14-4 win over Union.
The Lady Hornets won their only game with a 12-10, extra-inning win over Bay Springs.

The Hornets roughed up two opponents last week, sweeping Scott Central 17-1 and 16-2 while beating Union 14-4 on Saturday.
On Tuesday, the Hornets opened with 10 runs in the first inning and took a 17-1 win over Scott Central. Lake had six hits and took advantage of five errors, five walks and five hit batters. Hank Geter was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Kasen Tune singled and drove in three runs. Wes Nester doubled and scored two runs while Trey Gray and J.D. Gibson each scored three runs. Tune started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up one run on four hits.
On Friday, Lake completed the week with a 16-2 win, thanks to an 11-run second inning. Lake had 10 hits in the contest, led by Kasen Tune who was 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Aiden Dilley hit a grand slam home run while Wes Nester was 2-for-3 with a double. Trey Gray was 2-for-2 with four runs scored while J.D. Gibson singled and scored four runs. Nester pitched all four innings and gave up two runs on three hits and two walks to pick up the win.
On Saturday, Lake completed the week with a 14-4 win over Union. Lake scored nine runs in the first and finished with five in the fourth. Lake had eight hits and took advantage of seven walks. J.D. Gibson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs while Trey Gray was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Wyatt Bell pitched four innings and gave up three runs on three hits while striking out 10. Gavin Boles pitched the last inning for the Hornets.
Lake softball
The Lady Hornets only got in one game last week and took a hard-fought 12-10 win over Bay Springs.
Lake trailed 4-2 after the first but scored five in the third. Bay Springs scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to second the game to extra innings. Each team scored two runs in the eighth while Lake outscored Bay Springs 3-1 in the ninth. Lake had 13 hits as Alyssa Sockey was 5-for-5 with a double and a triple. Amaure’i Jones was 2-for-6 with a double while Jacey Wells was 2-for-5 with a triple. Lydaysha Thames was 2-for-5 while Adyson McKnight doubled and drove in two runs.
Wells didn’t get an out and gave up three runs on three while while Daelyn Earls pitched nine innings and gave up seven runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six.
