A structure fire in Hickory on Thursday evening resulted in the homeowner being rescued from the home and airlifted for medical treatment.
At 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 25, Hickory Fire Department, along with departments from Newton and Decatur, responded to the structure fire on 67 Emmanuel Street.
According to Hickory Fire Chief Ginger Hand, there was reason to believe that the homeowner was still in the home. Once they arrived at the scene, two members of the Hickory Fire Department were able to initiate a search in the fully involved home and rescue the homeowner. She was soon airlifted for treatment in Jackson.
“Whoever called the fire in knew that the female homeowner was still inside,” Ginger said. “The guys did a phenomenal job. Their training kicked in and they executed the search perfectly, located the occupant, and were able to get her out and start medical treatment after that.”
The two firefighters who executed the rescue were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
The fire also resulted in a total loss of the home. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
