The Lake Lady Hornets have gotten better every season under head coach Maurice Bowie.
The Lady Hornets continued their climb under Bowie as they easily swept through the Division 5-2A Tournament last week.
Lake opened with a 42-26 win over Philadelphia and then beat Kemper County 45-26 in the finals to capture the tournament title.
Lake will host Pisgah in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on Monday.
Lake girls 45, Kemper County 26
The Lady Warriors dominated from the start and cruised to a 19-point win to claim the Division 5-2A championship on Friday night at Clarkdale.
Lake started fast as they jumped out to a 19-2 lead in the first period and led 22-11 at the half. Lake pulled away in the second half as they outscored Kemper 15-11 in the third and 8-4 in the fourth to take the win.
Laneisha Palm led Lake with 19 points while D’Nara Barton had nine points and Tra’Shaylah Wilson each had six points apiece.
Lake girls 42, Philadelphia 26
The Lady Hornets dominated the first three period and took a 16-point win over the Lady Tornadoes in the tournament semifinals on Thursday.
Lake outscored Philly 11-6 in the first and outscored the Lady Tornadoes 10-2 in the second to lead 21-8 at the half. Lake extended the lead in the third, outscoring Philly 13-7 to lead 34-15 going to the fourth. Philadelphia took the fourth period 9-8 for the final margin.
Laneisha Palm and Tra’Shaylah Wilson led Lake with 14 points apiece while D’Nara Barton had 12 points apiece.
Nanih Waiya boys 36, Lake 33
The Warriors finished strong as they eliminated the Hornets with a three-point win.
Nanih Waiya led 9-6 at the end of the first period and 15-13 at the half. Lake then outscored Nanih Waiya 17-11 in the third and took a 30-26 lead into the fourth. Nanih Waiya then outscored Lake 10-3 in the fourth to take the win.
Curly Robinson led Lake with 10 points while Nyzavious McClendon had seven points and O’Darious Johnson added five points.
