Newton County swept a pair of games from visiting Sebastopol last week in their only action of the week. The Lady Cougars took a 55-46 win over the Lady Bobcats while the Cougars took an entertaining 77-74 win over the Bobcats. Sebastopol also played Scott Central on Monday as the Lady Bobcats took a 43-28 win over the Lady Rebels while the Bobcats fell 72-46.
Newton County only has one game scheduled this week as they will travel to Neshoba Central on Thursday. The following week, they will host Northeast Jones on Tuesday, Jan. 4 to open Division 5-4A play. They will finish the week on Friday, Jan. 7 by hosting Mendenhall.
Sebastopol will play at Union on Tuesday and at Enterprise on Thursday. The following week, Sebastopol will play at Ethel on Tuesday, Jan. 1 before they host the Scott County Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 6 through Saturday, Jan. 8.
County boys 77, Sebastopol 74
In a back and fourth game, the Cougars used a big fourth period and held on to take a three-point win over the Bobcats.
Sebastopol jumped out to a 21-16 lead in the first period while Newton County outscored the Bobcats 18-14 in the second to cut the lead to 35-34 at the half. Sebastopol then outscored Newton County 17-15 in the third and led 52-49 going to the fourth. Newton County then outscored Sebastopol 28-22 in the third to take the three-point win.
Xay Clay led Newton County with 15 points while Kyren Warnsley, Dasen King and Keaton Gray each had 10 points apiece. Dresen Jimmie had nine points while Zarius Johnson and Jaylen Torguson added six points.
Jacob Williams had a huge game for Sebastopol with 34 points while Luke McGarrity had 12 points and Keon Triplett added 11 points.
Scott Central boys 72, Sebastopol 46
The Rebels pulled away in the second period and outscored the Bobcats in every period to take a 26-point win on Monday.
Scott Central led 14-12 in the first period and outscored Sebastopol 25-10 in the second to lead 39-22 at the half. Scott Central then outscored Sebastopol 22-17 in the third and 11-7 in the fourth to take the win.
Luke McGarrity led Sebastopol with 10 points while Kenyon White had nine points. Kari Micheals and Kayden Moorehead had six points each.
County girls 55, Sebastopol 46
The Lady Cougars overcame a slow start and pulled away to take a nine-point win over the Lady Bobcats.
Sebastopol jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first period before Newton County outscored the Lady Bobcats 19-10 in the second to take a 27-25 lead at the half. Newton County then put the game away in the third as they outscored Sebastopol 16-7 to take a 43-32 lead into the fourth. Sebastopol took the fourth period 14-12 for the final margin.
Kelcei Thomas led Newton County with 20 points while Remini Nickey had 11 points and Alyssa McMullan chipped in 10 points. Taelyn Nickey also had six points for the Lady Cougars.
Alana Gunn led Newton County with 15 points while Kylee Madden had 10 points and Takayla Williams added eight points.
Sebastopol girls 43, Scott Central 28
The Lady Bobcats dominated the first half and cruised to a 15-point win.
Sebastopol outscored Scott Central 6-0 in the first and 13-4 in the second to lead 19-4 at the half. The Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Rebels 15-11 in the third and led 34-15 going to the fourth. Scott Central took the fourth 13-9 for the final margin.
Alana Gunn led Sebastopol with 13 points while Hadley Thrash had nine points. Takayla Williams had seven points while Jadyen Latham and Kylee Madden each had six points.
