The Newton County softball team added two more wins to its total to run its current winning streak to nine games.
The Cougars hammered Quitman 14-1 on Thursday and then shut out Union 8-0 on Friday.
County, now 18-5 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Monday as they host Enterprise and will then travel to West Harrison on Friday.
Newton County 8, Union 0
The Lady Cougars struck early and shut out the Lady Yellowjackets on Friday.
County scored four in the first, one in the second and three in the third to take the win.
County outhit Union 8-5 while Union committed four errors and gave up four walks. Natalie Lampton was 2-for-3 while Maeli Ben tripled, scored twice and had two RBIS. Shae Jimmie also tripled and drove in two runs while Hanna Chaney and Casey Dube each doubles and scored a run. Brelie Phillips singled and drove in two runs.
Mandarie Leach started in the circle and scattered five hits and struck out four in a shutout effort.
Destiney Moulds was 2-for-3 with a double for Union while Carsyn Capps was 2-for-3 as well. Alanee Wheeler also singled for Union.
Abigail Cleveland pitched all seven inning for Union, giving up eight runs on eight hits and four walks.
Newton County 14, Quitman 1
The Lady Cougars scored 11 runs in the first inning and cruised to a four-inning, run-rule win on Thursday.
County scored 11 in the first and finished with three in the third.
County had 12 hits and drew five walks. Shae Jimmie was 2-for-2 with four RBIs while Z Bell was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Katelyn Jackson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Maeli Ben doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs. Mandarie Leach singled and drove in two runs while Brelie Phillips, Mary Preston Williams and Abagail Pippin each scored two runs apiece.
Shae Jimmie started in the circle and pitched all four innings for County, giving up one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight.
