The Lake Lady Hornets split a pair of games this week against some of the state’s top competition.
The Lady Hornets avenged an early-season loss as they beat Raleigh 3-0 on Tuesday before falling to the state’s top team with a 6-1 loss to Neshoba Central.
Lake, now 18-7 on the season, will finish out the regular season this week as they travel to Enterprise on Tuesday. The Lady Hornets will be the No. 2 seed out of division play when the playoffs begin this week.
Lake 3, Raleigh 0
The Lady Hornets played shutout softball and took a three-run win over the Lady Lions on Tuesday.
The game was scoreless the first two innings before Lake scored two in the third and one in the fourth.
Lake outhit Raleigh 6-3 in the contest. Kate Gladney had a two-run home run for the Lady Hornets while Brantley McGee was 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Katlyn Lott doubled and scored a run while Abbie McGee also doubled.
Gladney started in the circle and pitched all seven innings in 76 pitches. The senior right hander scattered three hits and one walk while striking out five.
Neshoba Central 6, Lake 1
The Lady Rockets scored in five of the six innings and took a five-run win over the Lady Hornets in a battle of defending state champions.
After a scoreless first inning, Neshoba scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings while scoring two in the sixth. Lake scored its lone run in the seventh inning.
Neshoba outhit Lake 7-2 in the contest. Kate Gladney signed and scored Lake’s lone run. Gracie McKee had Lake’s other hit while Sadie Thompson drove in the lone run for the Lady Hornets.
Gladney started in the circle and pithed all six innings, giving up six runs, only three earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.
