The Union Lady Yellowjackets saw their season come to an end last week but it wasn’t without a fight.
Raleigh needed nine innings on Friday and took a 6-5 win and then finished with a 3-1 win on Saturday to finish off the Class 3A second-round series.
Union finishes the season with an 11-18 record.
Raleigh 3, Union 1
The Lady Lions gradually pulled away as they took a two-run win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Saturday to take the series win.
Raleigh scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings while Union scored one in the seventh.
Raleigh outhit Union 8-3 in the contest. Lauryn Roebuck singled and scored a run while Kaylee Holley and Abigail Cleveland each singled.
Alanee Wheeler started in the circle and pitched all seven innings as they gave up three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four.
Raleigh 6, Union 5
It took two extra innings but the Lady Lions took a walk-off win on Friday night to take game 1 of the series.
After two scoreless innings, Raleigh scored one in the third before Union plated four runs in the fourth. Raleigh then scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. After a scoreless seventh, each team scored a single run in the eighth. Raleigh then scored on a walk-off single with two outs.
Raleigh outhit Union 10-7 in the contest. Landrey Hanna was 3-for-3 while Lauryn Roebuck was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
Alanee Wheeler pitched 8 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out 10.
