The Union Lady Yellowjackets lost two out of three games last week but did manage to split a pair of Division 5-3A games.
Union opened the week with a 9-2 win over Southeast Lauderdale on Tuesday while the Lady Yellowjackets lost 9-5 on Thursday. Union then lost 8-0 to Newton County on Friday.
Union, now 8-13 on the season, will return to play this week as they are scheduled to host Scott Central on Monday and Clarkdale on Tuesday. They will then play at Clarkdale on Thursday to finish out the week.
Union 9, SE Lauderdale 2
The Lady Yellowjackets scored in six of the seven innings and took a seven-run win over the Lady Tigers on Tuesday.
Union scored three in the first and followed with one in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh with two in the fourth.
Union outhit Southeast 10-6 in the contest. Tiara Campbell was 3-for-3 while Alanee Wheeler was 3-for-4. DD Hunter was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Lauryn Roebuck singled and scored three runs while Albany Winstead scored two runs.
Wheeler pitched all seven innings for Union and gave up just two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six.
SE Lauderdale 9, Union 5
The Lady Yellowjackets couldn’t hold onto an early lead and dropped a four-run decision to Southeast on Thursday.
Union scored three in the second while Southeast answered with four in the third. After a scoreless fourth, each team scored one in the fifth and Southeast added one in the sixth. The Lady Tigers then scored three in the seventh to lead 9-4 while Union added a single run in the bottom of the seventh.
Southeast outhit Union 11-6 in the contest. Alanee Wheeler was 2-for-3 while Kaylee Holley had two RBIs. Lauryn Roebuck also tripled for Union.
Wheeler started in the circle for Union and pitched all seven innings, giving up nine runs, only two earned, on 11 hits and one walk while striking out seven.
