Area families that are being affected by the federal government shutdown can sign up for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TFAP) at the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority V in Newton. The MRHAV is also seeking donated food items from the community to help keep their food pantry stocked for the surge of local families that are in need this holiday season.

Lake at Scott Central: Hornets fall to Scott Central 35-28, hosts Mize in playoff

In a battle of in-county rivals for a district championship, it was Scott Central that got the best of Lake.

The Rebels overcame a fourth-quarter deficit and took a 35-28 win over the Hornets to claim the 5-2A championship.

Lake falls to 6-4 on the season and will host Mize in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
