Sebastopol football coach Nicky Mooney didn’t exactly enjoy his trip to McAdams last week.
To start with, the Bobcats weren’t able to get into their dressing room before the game and had to dress on the bus.
Then the Bobcats turned the ball over twice in the first half. But despite all of the setbacks, the Bobcats pulled away in the second half and took a 37-8 win over the homestanding Bulldogs on Friday night.
Sebastopol, now 1-0 on the season, will host Lake on Friday night.
Mooney said he wasn’t pleased with the first half.
“We couldn’t play much worse in the first half than we did,” Mooney said. “But we still had almost 500 yards of offense. But we just played sloppy in the first half but came out and answered in the second half. I got on them pretty good at the half and we scored 21 points in the third and put the game away. We got the clock running and everybody got to play. Nobody got hurt and everybody got to play so I guess that’s a good thing.”
The Bobcats got the ball to open the game but fumbled four plays into the game. McAdams was forced to punt but fumbled the snap and gave the Bobcats the ball at their own 23. The Bobcats scored in four plays as Kari Michaels scored on a 5-yard run. Cy Mooney hit the PAT and Sebastopol led 7-0.
After a three and out by the McAdams offense, the Bobcats went 60 yards in eight plays as Michaels scored on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter. Mooney hit the PAT and the Bobcats led 14-0.
That score held until halftime as Sebastopol lost a fumble, failed to convert a fake punt and turned the ball over on downs.
“We came out and scored 14 points quick and then I thought we just went through the motions,” Mooney said. “But I thought we came out and ran the ball a lot better in the second half. The offensive line blocked better and the running backs ran well. Keon Triplett had a good game and ran the ball well. I also thought Jake Kimble ran well and my quarterback ran well. We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot in the first half. It was all completely self-inflicted. We should have been up by 30 points at the half but it took three quarters instead of two.”
McAdams got the ball to start the second half but fumbled on the first play and Labarrion Patrick recovered for the Bobcats.
Two plays later, David Williams scored on a 4-yard run and Mooney hit the PAT as Sebastopol led 21-0.
The Bobcats got the ball right back when Tyler Perkins got an interception at the Sebastopol 20. The Bobcats then went 80 yards in six plays as Keon Triplett scored on a 16-yard touchdown. Mooney hit the PAT and Sebastopol led 28-0.
After another turnover on an interception by McCoy Compton, the Bobcats got a 25-yard field goal from Mooney to go up 31-0.
Sebastopol’s last score came early in the fourth when Jake Kimble scored on an 11-yard run after ripping off a 61-yard gainer. The PAT failed and the Bobcats led 37-0.
“I thought the defense played very well, especially the defensive line,” Mooney said. “They didn’t have many yards at all. They scored at the end on my ninth graders. They didn’t even sniff the end zone on my ones. They never ran for a first down against the starters. It was just a sloppy game. They aren’t very good and we kind of played down to them.”
The Bobcats had 471 yards of total offense with 431 on the ground and 40 yards passing. Triplett had a big night with 115 yards rushing on 11 carries while Kimble had 105 yards on seven carries. Michaels had 83 yards and two TDs on 15 carries while Andarius McDougle had 78 yards on 10 carries. Michaels was 5-of-9 passing for 40 yards while Triplett had three catches for 22 yards.
