Newton County Academy’s baseball season came to an end last week after being swept by Tunica Academy in the Class AA semifinals.
The Generals dropped a tight 8-6 decision on Thursday to the Blue Devils and then fell 12-0 on Saturday.
The Generals finish the season with a 13-11 record after starting the season 1-6.
Tunica 8, NCA 6
The Generals couldn’t hold onto an early lead as the Blue Devils took a two-run win in Game 1 of the series on Thursday.
Tunica scored one in the first before NCA answered with four in the second inning. Tunica bounced back with three in the third to tie the game at 4-4. NCA added single runs in the fourth and sixth while Tunica was able to score two in the fifth and sixth for the final margin.
NCA outhit Tunica 9-8 in the contest. Micah Garrison was 4-for-4 in the context while Jax Porter was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Logan Smith tripled while Austin Upton singled and drove in two runs. Ryan Moore also singled and scored a run.
Upton started on the mound and pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three. Porter pitched the next 2 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Lee Hollingsworth pitched the last inning and gave up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out four.
Tunica 12, NCA 0
The Generals struggled at the plate as the Blue Devils took a four-inning, run-rule win on Saturday.
Tunica scored one in the first, three in the second and four in the third and fourth.
Tunica had just five hits but drew seven walks and had seven hit batters.
NCA had just three hit, all singles by Jax Porter, Logan Smith and Garrett Loper.
Austin Upton started on the mound and pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on two hits and three walks. Jax Porter. Lee Hollingsworth, Braxton Kelly and Micah Garrison each came and pitched for the Generals.
