ST. JOHN PARISH, La. – Shortly after 2:30 on Saturday, Sept. Louisiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
The crash took the life of 38-year-old Jamie Hollingsworth of Newton.
The preliminary investigation revealed Hollingsworth was traveling northbound on the Veterans Memorial Bridge (LA 3213) in a 2013 Dodge 2500 pick-up. Hollingsworth approached a large Case farm tractor that was towing a sugar cane trailer in the right lane. The tractor was being operated by 55-year-old Patrick Shepard of St. James, La.
For reasons still under investigation, Hollingsworth’s vehicle struck the farm trailer from behind. Hollingsworth was not properly restrained and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. John Parish Coroner’s Office. Shepard sustained no life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. James Hospital for treatment.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending on the part of Hollingsworth.
