The County Board of Supervisors approved the $11.5 million Fiscal Year budget at their regular meeting on Sept. 5. The county is projected to bring in a total of $11,500, 937 in revenue for the year including $6,319,257 in taxes.
The county is projected to receive $1.78 million in state funding and $1.13 in charges for services. The county’s biggest expenditures will be for public works, which includes road and bridge improvements ($3.6 million) and general government which includes county worker salaries.
The only increases in the ad valorem tax levy will come from a 1 mill increase in the roads and bridges fund, from 8.23 mills to 9.23 mills and in East Central Community College maintenance funding, which will increase from 2.25 to 2.50. To see the complete county budget, see Page 7B.
The board also approved a five-year contract with Waste Pro to store garbage collected from the county in its landfill in Lawrence County.
In other business, the board approved a purchase by County Emergency Management Director John Williamson who bought lights to recover the body of Terry Wayne Barnett, 51, who drowned in a lake in Little Rock on Aug. 22.
The board also agreed to approved a salary contract for the Eighth District Circuit Court public defenders.
