The Decatur Board of Alderman approved a new policy for pool owners and discussed possible changes to the town’s non-house-hold trash and limb pick-up policies at their meeting on Tuesday, June 5.
The new pool owner policy will require pool owners to notify the town before refilling their pools, which will allow for an adjustment on their water bills.
The board discussed how the residents leaving non-household trash and tree limbs on curbs to be picked up by the town’s garbage collection continues to be a problem and Town Clerk Brenda Harper said that none of the current policy’s and ordinances indicate that landlords are responsible for bigger items that are left behind when renters move out.
The board approved the new pool policy but tabled the non-household trash and limb discussion to another date.
The board also to use a recently acquired small municipality grant from the Mississippi Development Authority for a $37,000 for a drainage project on Broad Street and Medgar Evers Drive.
In other business, Public Works Director David Anderson updated the board about the ongoing water pump replacement project and installation of rumble strips on West Broad Street on the day of the meeting. The strips were put in to curb speeders on the road.
Harper also said that the town’s departments were below their budgets with three four months left in the Fiscal Year 2018 and that the city has requested budget goals for the 2019 fiscal year.
