We have all heard that Mississippi has one of the highest rates of overweight and obesity among adults in the nation. Being overweight or obese can lead to health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Southern cooking and our love of soul food might make you think healthy eating is difficult. The Eating Smart Being Active program which includes a free app makes it easier. Learn how to:
•cook healthy alternatives like Cowboy Caviar and Oven Fried Catfish,
•plan, shop, and save money for family meals,
•keep food safe,
•commit to healthy lifestyle choices, and
•get moving toward an active life style.
The Newton County MSU Extension Service will be offering the Eat Smart Be Active program delivered by Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Nutrition Educator Program Assistants. A free series of nine lesson will be offered beginning Feb. 6, 2019 at Newton County MSU Extension 65 Seventh Street Decatur, MS 39327.
