This year, Newton County residents won’t have to travel outside of the county for their Fourth of July festivities as Turkey Creek Water Park will host its first every firework show Tuesday, July 3.
Turkey Creek Water Park Manager Pam Engle said the fireworks show will be an annual event and that four of the parks operated by the Pat Harrison Waterway District will be having similar events.
“This year, there’s four parks, Turkey Creek, Big Creek Water Park in Soso, Archusa Creek in Quitman and Big Creek in Wiggins are all having the same July 4 events at the same time,” Engle said. “This will be the first year for Turkey Creek and Big Creek.”
Engle said the show is being sponsored by 18 businesses, organizations and government entities from the Decatur and Newton areas.
Artisan Pyrotechnics of Wiggins, will be providing the computer-controlled fireworks show at 9 p.m., and the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department will be selling hamburgers plates for $5 start at 5 p.m.
Engle said that three Newton County Sheriff’s deputies will be on hand for safety that evening.
“It’s going to be a little bit of a learning curve for us this year and we don’t know what to expect yet, but I think the turnout is going to be really good,” she said.
Admission will be $10 per vehicle.
