Family and friends of a Newton man who was killed in a crash in Louisiana last week will pay their last respects to him today.
Jamie Lee Hollingsworth Sr., 38, of Newton died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash on the Veterans Memorial Bridge, which is located on Louisiana 3213 in St. John Parish. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
His death has affected numerous people across Newton County, especially those connected with Newton County Academy.
On the school Facebook page, school officials asked locals to pray for the Hollingsworth family.
“Our students Lee, Belle and Lilly, along with their mom Lori, our board member, lost their beloved dad and loving husband today,” the school stated in a post on Thursday night. “Words cannot convey the depths of our sorrow in the wake of this tragedy. We ask that the Lord wrap Jamie’s whole family in His arms and bring them the comfort that only He can provide. Our hearts are broken for this precious family.”
Hollingsworth was born Sunday, January 28, 1979 in Newton. He is also survived by his parents, David and Gail Hollingsworth; brothers, David and Kris; and sister, Jenny Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Antioch Christian Church in Hickory. Burial will follow in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Hickory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sunbelt Christian Youth Ranch in Lake.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Louisiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
A preliminary investigation revealed Hollingsworth was traveling northbound on the bridge in a 2013 Dodge 2500 pick-up when it collided with a sugar cane trailer in the right lane, also headed northbound.
The driver of the other vehicle did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
