Thomas Howard has been named managing editor of The Newton County Appeal.
Prior to joining the Newton County Appeal, Howard covered county government and education for the Delta Democrat-Times in Greenville and interned as a staff writer at The Anniston Star in Anniston, Ala.
“We are thrilled to have Thomas in Newton County,” said Newton County Appeal publisher Brent Maze. “He brings a wealth of journalism knowledge and experience to our newspaper, and I believe he will help improve our newspaper.”
A native of Estes Park, Colorado, Thomas Howard relocated to Mississippi in 2012 to study broadcast meteorology. After several years of struggling through the math-intensive course load, Howard left meteorology and found his true calling in Journalism. He graduated with a bachelors degree in Journalism from Mississippi State University in 2016 and earned a masters in Community Journalism from the University of Alabama in 2017.
In addition to being a journalist, Howard is an avid runner, animal lover and self-proclaimed culinary scientist. In his spare time, Howard enjoys playing with his two dogs, Alice and Arlo, cooking creative, usually edible dishes and exploring the many running trails Mississippi has to offer.
