There wasn’t a whole lot of business conducted at last week’s May meeting of the Union Board of Aldermen.
It was primarily a discussion of income and expenses for the city.
City attorney Doug Smith reported that Union had received a check for $12,900 from a bonding company as payment for the failure of JWB Construction of Taylorsville to submit a performance bond on a successful bid last summer.
JWB was the low bidder, at $251,251, to build an upgrade to Union’s sewer system.
JWB, however, never produced the required performance bond and the contract was never signed.
The bid eventually went to Greenbriar Construction ($339,950).
Mayor Wayne Welch said the DuraSip company would relinquish its $12,900 annual rent to the city for the building and facilities at 320 Front St.
With a workforce of less than 10 people, DuraSip manufactures fiberglass reinforced laminates used in construction applications.
Welch also reported that a leak underneath the fire station had been isolated and repaired. He said the repairs would cost approximately $6,000.
In other action, the aldermen:
•Heard a presentation from Daniel Blount of Sebastopol whose firm sells and services water monitoring equipment.
The board didn’t make any decision as to a purchase.
