In a short, uneventful August meeting last week, the Union Board of Aldermen wasted very little time in disposing of a brief agenda of routine items.
They held a brief discussion with City Clerk Cheryl Chaney about the possibility of planning for a 1-mill tax raise in September, but took no action.
In routine business, the aldermen:
• Appropriated a $10,000 payment to the Kemper-Newton Regional Library system.
• Postponed a decision for one week on a hearing concerning unkept property at the residence of Ruth Maiden, 107 Union St.
• Rehired Billy Pierce of Forest to conduct the annual audit of the City’s financial affairs.
• Voted to spend $325.00 on two separate ads in publications at the opening of the high school football season.
