Newton County has been awarded Federal Funds available through U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food@ Shelter Program the assistance is to help support families and individuals with food and shelter programs in Newton County.
Two grant amounts are available, including a $10,010 Phase 37 allocation and a $14,271 Phase Cares allocation.
A Local Board is responsible for distributing funds in each county. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of this program.
Under the terms of the grant from National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:
1) be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government;
2) be eligible to receive Federal funds;
3) have an accounting system;
4) practice nondiscrimination;
5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs; and
6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
The Newton County Emergency Food and Shelter local board will meet May 28, 2020 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at Multi-County Community Service Agency, 401 3’’ Avenue Newton, MS

To be considered for funding, agencies must meet certain specific requirements and applications must be completed and returned no later than 10 a.m. Thursday May 28,2020.
