SEBASTOPOL 1-0-4, ETHEL 0-5-2
The Sebastopol Lady Bobcats are headed to the Class 1A championship series.
The Lady Bobcats won game one of the series 1-0 on Friday but then dropped game two of the series 5-0 to even the series. Sebastopol then claimed the series 4-2 on Monday to advance to the 1A title series.
Sebastopol improves to 25-7 on the season and will take on Hamilton in the Class 1A championship series.
According to the MHSAA website, game 1 of the series was set to begin on Tuesday at noon with game two on Wednesday and an if-necessary game on Friday if needed.
Game 3: Sebastopol 4, Ethel 2
The Lady Bobcats took a two-run win in game three of the series to advance to the 1A title game.
Ethel scored one in the bottom of the first and Sebastopol then scored one in the top of the third to tie the game. Ethel then scored one in the bottom of the frame to go ahead 2-1. But Sebastopol scored two runs in the top of the fourth and one in the fourth to take the lead and win.
Sebastopol had six hits but no multiple hitters. Georgi Gunn and Hanna Boleware each singled and scored while Callie Byram and Marlee Smith each singled and drove in runs.
Neely Wolverton started in the circle and pitched all seven innings for Sebastopol, giving up two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four to pick up the win.
Game 2: Ethel 5, Sebastopol 0
With a chance to clinch a state championship berth at home, the Lady Bobcats were shut out on Saturday.
Ethel scored four runs in the top of the second inning. After opening with a solo home run, Ethel put together three straight singles to go up 2-0. After an error gave Ethel a 3-0 lead, a double plated another run for the Lady Tigers. Ethel added a single run in the fifth inning.
Ethel outhit Sebastopol 8-3 in the contest. Marlee Smith with 2-for-3 in the contest while Emma Smith also singled.
Savannah Crout started in the circle and pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits with one walk. Neely Wolverton pitched the last 5 1/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Game 1: Sebastopol 1, Ethel 0
The Lady Bobcats used a dominant pitching performance from Neely Wolverton to take a shutout win over the Lady Tigers on Friday.
Sebastopol scored its lone run in the first inning. Emma Smith led off the inning with a single up the middle. After advancing to second on a passed ball, Smith moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Abbie Wilson. Smith came home and scored on a single to right field by Callie Byram.
Sebastopol outhit Ethel 7-3 in the contest. Smith led the Lady Bobcats, going 3-for-4 and scoring the game’s only run. Byram was 2-for-4 while Hanna Boleware doubled and Georgi Gunn singled.
Wolverton was effectively wild in the contest, scattering three hits and seven walks while striking out eight.
