The Newton County baseball team won two out of three games last week including a pair of blowout wins in division play.
County swept two games from Leake County, winning 15-0 and 13-1 on Thursday while dropping a 5-3 game to Madison Central on Friday.
Newton County moves to 15-6 on the season and will take on Northeast Lauderdale in a key division series this week. Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday in Decatur while game 2 is set for Friday at Northeast. County will then host Meridian on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hitting: Newton County only had two hits but drew eight walks and had five hit batters. Landry Tolbird doubled, scored two runs and drove in two runs. Cooper Lewis had County’s other hit with a single and scored two runs. Cooper Johnson, Vance Richardson and Landon Huber each scored two runs while Colt Smith had three RBIs. Hayden Amis, Cade Mangum and Dalton Graham each had two RBIs for the Cougars.
Pitching: Smith started on the mound and pitched one inning and struck out one it take the win. Ethan Burton pitched the next two innings and gave up two hits while striking out five.

Hitting: The Cougars had nine games and took advantage of seven errors and five walks to take another run-rule win. Landon Stuart was 2-for-2 and drove in two runs while Conner Alford doubled and scored a run. Trent Renfrow also doubled and drove in a run. Jordan Chaney singled and drove in two runs while Caleb Shinn singled and scored two runs. Hayden Townsend also scored two runs.
Pitching: Landon Huber started on the mound and-itched three innings to pick up the win, giving up one unearned run on two walks while striking out six. Trey Wilbourn pitched the last innings and struck out one.

Hitting: Each team had eight hits the contest. Cooper Lewis had a big game, going 4-for-4 with three doubles, a home run and two RBIs. Cade Mangum and Camden Thoms also had doubles while Cooper Johnson singled and scored.
Pitching: Trent Renfrow started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five. Lewis pitched the last two innings and gave up three runs on three hatstand two walks while striking out two to take the loss.
