The Newton County Academy girls continued their strong play and picked up three more wins this past week.
The Lady Generals improved to 13-2 on the season as they beat Sylva Bay 53-33, Grace Christian 40-33 in overtime and the Meridian Lady Flyers 41-22.
The Generals lost all three games last week, falling 53-14 to Sylva Bay, 40-23 to Grace Christian and 46-38 to the Meridian Flyers.
NCA returned to action this week as they hosted Prentiss on Tuesday and will host Kemper on Thursday. They will finish the week on Friday as they travel to Lamar Christian.
NCA girls 41, Meridian Lady Flyers 22
The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Flyers in every period and took a 19-point win.
NCA jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first period and outscored Meridian 6-3 in the second to lead 19-7 at the half. NCA then outscored Meridian 10-4 in the third and 12-11 in the fourth for the final margin.
Addie Bergeron led NCA with eight points while Sydnee Cosgrove, Adrian Luke and Macie Woodham each had six points apiece.
Meridian Flyers boys 46, NCA 38
The Generals weren’t able to hold onto an early lead as they dropped an eight-point decision to the Flyers.
NCA was strong early as they led Meridian 16-11 in the first period, but the Flyers took the second period 9-0 to lead 20-16 at the half. NCA pulled close in the third, outscoring Meridian 12-9 to cut the margin to 29-28 going to the fourth. But Meridian outscored NCA 17-10 to take the win.
Noah Agent led NCA with 17 points while Cooper Savell had 12 points.
NCA girls 40, Grace Christian 33 (OT)
The Lady Generals held the Lady Eagles scoreless in overtime and took a seven-point win.
Grace led 8-6 at the end of the first and each team scored seven points in the second period as the Lady Eagles led 15-13 at the half. Grace then outscored NCA 8-7 in the third to extend their lead to 23-20 going to the fourth. NCA then outscored Grace 13-10 to send the game into overtime. NCA blanked Grace 7-0 in the overtime period to take the win.
Macie Woodham led NCA with 12 points while Addie Bergeron had 10 points. Addison Mathis also had nine points.
Grace Christian boys 40, NCA 23
The Eagles pulled away in the middle two periods and took a 17-point win over the Generals.
NCA led 5-4 at the end of the first but then Grace outscored the Generals 10-3 and 11-5 in the middle two quarters to take a 25-13 lead into the fourth. NCA took the fourth 10-9.
Noah Agent led NCA with nine points.
NCA girls 53, Sylva Bay 33
The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Saints in every period and took a 20-point win.
NCA outscored Sylva Bay 13-10 in the first and 14-10 in the second to lead 27-20 at the half. NCA continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring Sylva Bay 10-6 in the second and 16-7 in the fourth.
Addie Bergeron had a big game and led NCA with 22 points while Piper Collins had seven points. Addison Mathis had six points while Macie Woodham and Sydnee Cosgrove each had five points apiece.
Sylva Bay boys 53, NCA 14
The Generals struggled on offense as the Saints pulled away in the middle periods to take a 39-point win.
Cooper Savell led NCA with six points.
