Philadelphia 68, Sebastopol 45
The Sebastopol Bobcats had 530 yards of offense against Philadelphia on Friday night but it wasn’t enough.
The Tornadoes used a punishing rushing attack as they took a 68-45 win over the Bobcats to open Division 4-2A play.
Sebastopol falls to 5-2 on the season and will host Eupora in a critical division contest this Friday.
Head coach Keith Brown said his team wasn’t able to keep pace with the Tornadoes.
“It was just a bad night for us,” Brown said. “We knew they were better than their record and that showed. We really struggled tackling their running back. We stayed with them for a while but just couldn’t do it for the whole game. We’ve just got to bounce back from this and focus on our remaining district games. It’s obvious what we need to work on this week.”
The Bobcats kicked off to start the game and recovered an onside kick. Adarius McDougle scored on the first play on a 30-yard run and also ran in the two-point conversion as the Bobcats led 8-0 early in the first quarter.
The Tornadoes answered with a 10-play, 65-yard drive and scored on a 1-yard run. The try for two was good and Philly tied the game at 6-6.
Sebastopol then went 50 yards in five plays as McDougle scored on a 25-yard run and Dannon Jenkins ran in the two-point conversion and the Bobcats retook the lead at 16-8.
The Tornadoes tied the game back up at 16-16 with 3:38 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats again answered as McDougle hit Luke McGarrity on a 28-yard pass. McDougle ran in the two-point conversion and Sebastopol led 24-16.
Philly then scored on a 6-yard pass but failed with the try for two as the Bobcats led 24-22.
McDougle then scored on a 47-yard run and Noah Atkinson hit the PAT as the Bobcats led 31-22.
The Tornadoes then started to pull away as they scored on runs of 42, 39 and 72 yards to take a 46-31 lead at the half.
Sebastopol got the ball to start the second half and went 83 yards in five plays as McDougle scored is fourth touchdown on an 18-yard run to cut the lead to 46-39.
The Tornadoes then scored three straight times and led 68-39 early in the fourth quarter.
Samarion Jones the got Sebastopol its last points when he scored on an 85-yard run with 8:50 left in the game. The try for two failed for the final of 68-45.
Sebastopol had 416 yards rushing and 114 passing for 530 yards of total offense. McDougle had 221 yards on 20 carries with four TDs. Jones had 111 yards on six carries while Dannon Jenkins had 67 yards on 12 carries.
McDougle was 5-of-13 passing for 114 yards with one TD and one interception. Michael Stewart had two catches for 61 yards while Luke McGarrity had two catches for 40 yards.
