The Newton County Academy Lady Generals rebounded from a slow start last week to take a pair of big wins this week.
The Lady Generals opened the day on Saturday with a 10-6 win over Class 6A Hartfield and then beat Leake Academy 13-4 to finish out the day.
NCA will now host Leake on Monday in their home opener and will then host the Meridian Flyers on Thursday before playing in the Tri-County Tournament on Saturday in Clinton.
NCA 10, Hartfield 6
The Lady Generals built an early lead and held on to take a four-run win over the Lady Hawks in the first game of the day on Saturday.
NCA led 2-1 after two innings before scoring three in the third and four in the fourth to lead 7-1. NCA added three in the sixth while Hartfield scored five runs in the last two innings.
NCA had 11 hits and drew five walks. Kelsey Tibbetts was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs while Maggie Vance was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Adriane Luke was 2-for-4 and scored two runs while Addison Mathis doubled and drove in two runs. Addisyn Fox also singled and drove in three runs. Sophia Munn and and Sydnee Cosgrove each scored two runs.
Cosgrove started in the circle and pitched all seven innings, giving up six runs with only three earned on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine.
Newton County Academy 13, Leake 4
The Lady Generals scored in six of the seven innings and took a nine-run win over the Lady Rebels in the second game of the day on Saturday.
NCA built an early lead with one in the first and third with three in the second and fourth to lead 8-0. Leake answered with two runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 8-4 before NCA finished with four in the sixth and one in the seventh.
NCA outhit NCA 12-4 in the contest and took advantage of seven errors in the field.
Sydnee Cosgrove was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs while Adriane Luke was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Addison Mathis was 2-for-5 while Sophia Munn, Maggie Vance and Jamie Stamper each singled and scored two runs.
MC Kelly started in the circle and pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs on four hits while striking out two to pick up the win.
