The Newton County Academy girls added two more wins to their total last week in dominating fashion.
The Lady Generals blew out a pair of district opponents, beating Calhoun Academy 58-24 and Kemper Academy 51-29.
The NCA boys dropped a pair of tight games as they fell 40-35 to Calhoun and 29-27 to Kemper.
The Lady Generals improved to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in district play. NCA will play at Sylva Bay on Tuesday and at Calhoun on Friday. NCA will also host the district junior high tournament on Saturday.
NCA girls 58, Calhoun 24
The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Cougars in every period and took a 34-point win in district play.
NCA jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the first period and 17-13 in the second period to lead 38-16 at the half. NCA then outscored Calhoun 16-6 in the third and led 54-22 going to the fourth. NCA took the fourth 4-2 for the final margin.
Lilly Hollingsworth led NCA with 22 points while Cayden Alexander had 14 points. Macie Woodham had 10 points while Emme Reese added eight points.
Calhoun Academy boys 40, NCA 35
The Generals were unable to overcome a slow start as they took a five-point loss to the Cougars last week in district play.
Calhoun led 5-2 in a slow-moving first period and then outscored NCA 13-9 in the second to lead 18-11 at the half. Calhoun took the third period 12-10 and led 30-21 going to the fourth. The Generals fought back and outscored NCA 14-10 in the fourth for the final margin.
Noah Agent led NCA with nine points while Tyler Thrash had eight points.
NCA girls 51, Kemper 29
The Lady Generals used a big second period and cruised to a 22-point win over the Lady Rams.
NCA held a tight 10-7 lead at the end of the first period and then outscored Kemper 24-1 in the second period to lead 34-8 at the half. NCA then outscored Kemper 13-5 in the third and led 47-13 going to the fourth period. Kemper outscored the NCA reserves 16-4 in the fourth for the final margin.
Lilly Hollingsworth led NCA with 19 points while Madline Vance had eight points and Cayden Alexander had seven points.
Kemper Academy boys 29, NCA 27
The Generals weren’t able to hold onto an early lead as the Rams took a two-point win on Friday.
NCA jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first period but Kemper outscored the Generals 10-6 to cut the lead to 17-16 at the half. NCA took the third period 4-2 and led 21-18 going to the fourth. But Kemper outscored NCA 11-6 in the third period to take the win.
Kelley Skipper led NCA with eight points while Tyler Thrash had seven points.
