A man was injured in a shooting on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 20, during an altercation on Albo Stamper Road, leading to the arrest of Earl Staggs on multiple charges, authorities reported.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident around 3:45 p.m. at 228 Albo Stamper Road. Sheriff Joedy Pennington stated that the altercation involved Jack Shoemaker and Earl Staggs. During the dispute, Staggs allegedly fired shots at Shoemaker, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. Shoemaker was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, Sheriff Pennington announced several charges against Staggs, including aggravated assault, four counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of methamphetamine.
Staggs had an initial court appearance on Monday, Dec. 23, where his bond was set at $40,000.
