In the third week of the 2025 Legislative Session, the Mississippi Senate met the Monday, January 20, 2025, deadline for introduction of general bills and constitutional amendments.
Senators continued to hear agency funding requests in Appropriations subcommittee meetings.
The Senate on Monday, January 20, 2025, passed Senate Resolution 7, urging Allen Media Broadcasting, of Los Angeles, California, to retain the in-house weather reporting services of WTVA, Channel 9 of Tupelo, as Allen Media Broadcasting has said it plans to dismiss WTVA’s meteorology team and use a remote weather reporting service provider. Senators said WTVA’s services were beneficial to the area.
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Senate Agriculture Committee met to discuss the state of Mississippi’s farm industry and its outlook, including projected crop production and solutions to help farmers become profitable and increase their numbers.
The Senate now faces a February 4, 2025, deadline for committees to report general bills and constitutional amendments originating in the Senate.
