Mississippi is making history—again.
According to an announcement this week from Governor Tate Reeves, the state hit record-breaking numbers in April for employment. A total of 1,243,807 Mississippians are now employed, the highest ever recorded in the state. Additionally, non-farm employment reached 1,202,000 jobs, another historic high.
“More Mississippians are working than ever before, and there are a record number of jobs,” said Governor Reeves. “Mississippi isn’t making news—we’re making history.”
This employment milestone comes on the heels of a $38 million economic development project that is expected to create 450 more jobs in the state.
The momentum doesn’t stop there. Mississippi currently boasts the second-fastest growing economy and the fourth-fastest growing per capita income in the nation for 2024. Education also saw a recent win, with a record-high 77.3% of third graders passing the statewide reading assessment on their first try during the 2024–2025 school year.
Since Governor Reeves took office, Mississippi has announced nearly $35 billion in private sector investment, contributing to thousands of new jobs and a positive shift in the state’s economic outlook.
For many in Newton County and surrounding areas, these numbers are more than statistics—they represent opportunity, growth, and a future that feels full of possibility.
