The Newton County Academy baseball team only got in one game as they prepared for the Class 3A playoffs.
The Generals tuned up for the playoffs with a 14-8 win over Kemper Academy on Tuesday.
NCA improves to 12-13 on the season and will take on River Oaks in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
NCA 14, Kemper 8
The Generals scored the last eight runs of the game and took a six-run win over the Rams on Tuesday.
NCA scored two in the second and three in the third while Kemper scored one in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth to take an 8-5 lead. NCA then scored two in the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh.
NCA had 13 hits in the contest and drew five walks. Bryce Jones was 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Taylor Burt was 2-for-2 with five RBIs while Ty Thrash was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Steven Duke was 2-for-3 with two walks while Cooper Thrash also had a double. Logan Usry singled, walked twice and scored two runs.
Duke started on the mound and pitched all six innings, giving upright runs on six hits and seven walks while striking out three for the win. Cooper Thrash came in and pitched the last inning for the Generals.
