The Newton County Academy tennis team brought home a boys district championship last week while the Lady Generals finished second.
NCA brought home four individual district title in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the NCA baseball team lost two of three games but split a pair of district games to Prentiss Christian.
The NCA baseball team finished third in district play and will play River Oaks in first-round action this week. Game 1 will be Tuesday at NCA while games 2 and 3 will be on the road either Thursday or Friday.
Tennis
The Newton Academy boys won their district championship last week as they had two champions in No. 2 boys and doubles.
The NCA girls finished second to Laurel in the district with championships in both girls doubles spots.
In girls No. 1 singles, Celi Weems won the opening round 5.7, 6-4, 10-5. But Weems fell in the finals to Laurel Christian 6-2, 6-4.
In girls No. 2 single, Grace Pennington lost in the opening round, 7-5, 6-3.
In girls No. 1 doubles, Landry Parkes and Maddy Smith, cruised to the district title as they beat Sylva Bay 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round and Laurel Christian 6-4, 6-2 in the finals.
In girls No. 2 doubles, Jamie Stamper and Piper Collins, also brought home a district title as they beat Discovery 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals and Laurel Christian 6-1, 6-1 in the finals.
In mixed doubles, Morgan Herrington and Parker Jones won their opening round match, as they beat Discovery Christian 6-4, 6-1. But they lost 6-1, 6-1 to Laurel Christian in the finals.
In boys No. 1 singles, Cash Weems beat Laurel Christian 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round but lost 6-3, 6-7, 10-1 in the championship match.
In boys No. 2 singles, Noah Agent won both matches, beating Sylva Bay 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round and Discovery 6-3, 6-3 in the finals.
In boys No. 1 doubles, Eli Herrington and Taylor Burt lost in the finals. They opened with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Discovery Christian in the opening round but then lost to rival Sylva Bay 6-1, 5-7, 12-10 in a third-set tiebreaker.
In boys No. 2 doubles, Andrew Booth and Garrett Estes also brought home a district title. They beat Discovery 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and then beat Laurel Christian 6-1, 6-2 in the finals.

The Newton County Academy baseball team lost two out of three games this week but got a big district win over Prentiss Christian.
On Tuesday, Prentiss jumped out to an early lead and took a 9-5 win. Prentiss scored six in the first and led 9-0 after four innings while NCA scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh. NCA had nine hits as Cooper Thrash was 3-for-4 while Bryce Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Cooper Savell started on the mound and pitched two innings and gave up seven runs on six hits and three walks. Cooper Thrash pitched the next three innings and gave up two runs on three hits while Ty Thrash pitched the last inning.
On Thursday, the Generals rebounded and took an 8-1 win over Prentiss Christian to split the series. NCA scored one in the first and second, two in the fifth and four in the sixth. NCA had 10 hits in the contest, led by Bryce Jones who was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Cooper Thrash was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while Ty Thrash was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Stephen Duke pitched all seven innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits to get the win.
On Friday, NCA dropped an 11-10 contest to Starkville Christian. NCA scored two in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings while Starkville used an eight-run fifth inning to take the win. NCA outhit Starkville 11-4 but walked 13 batters in the loss. Taylor Burt was 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Bryce Jones was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Ty Thrash was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Max Ferguson was 2-for-4. Stephen Duke singled, walked three times and scored three runs. Ty Thrash Started on the mounding pitched six innings and gave up three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out 10. Cooper Thrash got one out as he gave up three runs on four walks while Cooper Savell pitched the last 2/3 of an inning and gave up five runs on five walks.
