The Newton County Academy baseball team lost two out of three games but did pick up a big district win while the NCA tennis team won both of its matches.
The baseball team split with Lamar Christian in baseball, falling 6-5 on Tuesday while winning 12-2 on Thursday. They finished the week with an 8-4 loss to Kemper.
The tennis team won both matches last week, beating Enterprise 7-2 and Discovery Christian 6-3.

The General lost two out of three games last week on the baseball diamond.
The Lions scored in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 win against the Generals on Tuesday. NCA scored two in the third but Lamar answers with one in the fourth and four in the fifth. The Generals tied the score with two in the seventh before Lamar Christian scored one in the bottom of the seventh. NCA had five hits but committed three errors in the field. Bryce Jones was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs while Cooper Thrash and Logan Usry each singled and scored. Gaines Boyd also singled and had an RBI. Stephen Duke pitched six innings and gave up five runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four. Cooper Savell pitched the last 2/3 of an inning and took the loss.
The Generals bounced back and took a 12-2 win over the Lions on Thursday to split the series. NCA scored four in the third, three in the fifth and five in the sixth. NCA had 13 hits in the contest, led by Ty Thrash who was 3-for-4 with a double while Bryce Jones was 2-for-2 with two walks. Logan Usry was 2-for-5 with two RBIs while Steven Duke was 2-for-3. Max Ferguson doubled and drove in two runs while Cooper Thrash singled and drove in two runs. Cooper Savell pitched six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out eight to get the win.
The Generals finished out the week with an 8-4 loss to Kemper Academy on Saturday. The Generals fell behind 7-3 as Kemper outhit them 9-5. Ty Thrash tripled and scored while Cooper Savell doubled and drove in two runs. Taylor Burt pitched three innings and gave up three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Steven Duke pitched two innings and gave up four runs on four hits while Ty Thrash pitched the last two innings and was tagged with the loss.

The Generals picked up two more wins last week with a 7-2 win over Enterprise and a 6-3 win over Discovery Christian.

Against Enterprise in girls singles, Ceeli Weems lost 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Grace Pennington won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. In girls doubles, Landry Parks and Maddy Smith won 6-0, 6-0 while Jamie Stamper and Piper Collins won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In boys singles, Noah Agent won 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot while Cash Weems won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. In boys doubles, Eli Herrington and Taylor Burt won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot while Andrew Boothe and Garrett Estes won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
