MHSAA delays football two weeks

The MHSAA Executive Committee voted Tuesday to delay the Fall sports calendar two weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Practice for cross country, swimming and volleyball can begin August 10 with competition among schools permitted starting August 24.

Expectations increase for Cougars

The 2019 football season at Newton County was one that was defined by injuries and comebacks.

After opening with a solid 35-14 win over Leake Central, the injury bug hit the next week in a 14-13 loss to Kosciusko. By the Sumrall game, the Cougars had 12 starters out and eventually lost four games in a row.
