The Newton County Chapter of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Jeremiah Thames has been awarded the 2024-2025 Newton County Chapter Scholarship.
Jeremiah, the son of James and Stephanie Thames of Little Rock, Mississippi, is a 2024 honor graduate of Newton County High School, finishing with an impressive 3.9 GPA. Throughout his high school career, Jeremiah has been an active member of the varsity football team, powerlifting team, band, Beta Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. His achievements include being named to the Principal’s List, Honor Roll, and the National Society of High School Scholars, as well as receiving Zeta Phi Beta's most outstanding minority student award and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
In addition to his academic and extracurricular accomplishments, Jeremiah has also been dedicated to community service. He volunteered with the Newton County Youth Football Team, works part-time at Jack's Family Restaurant, and serves as a junior audio technician at White Stone Baptist Church in Lawrence, MS.
Jeremiah plans to major in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Administration at Mississippi State University. "I am thankful to receive this opportunity and most importantly HAIL STATE!" Jeremiah expressed.
Thanks to the generous contributions to the Newton County Chapter scholarship fund, Jeremiah was awarded a $500 scholarship. The chapter extends its gratitude to all who donated through raffle fundraisers or directly to the MSU Foundation.
The Newton County Chapter Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving freshman or transfer student from Newton County planning to attend MSU full-time. Requirements include a minimum 3.0 GPA, a minimum 18 ACT score, leadership qualities, academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, community service, and financial need.
