The Newton Lady Tigers picked up another win last week as they pounded Pelahatchie.
The Lady Tigers got a big game out of Jamiya Jones, who pumped in 37 points to take a 60-38 win over the Lady Chiefs.
The Tigers fell 81-51 to the Chiefs in the boys game.
Newton is scheduled to complete the regular season this week as they host Lake on Tuesday and then play at Scott Central on Friday. The district tournament will be next week at Pelahatchie.
Newton girls 60, Pelahatchie 38
The Lady Tigers took an early lead and outscored the Lady Chiefs in every period to take a 22-point win in district play last week.
Newton jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first period and then outscored Pelahatchie 13-11 in the second to lead 25-15 at the half. Newton continued to extend its lead as they outscored Pelahatchie 16-10 in the third and 19-13 in the fourth to take the win.
Jamiya Jones had another big game for Newton as she pumped in 37 points while Akyrin Berry had nine points.
Pelahatchie boys 81, Newton 51
The Chiefs used a steady supply of offense to pull away and take a 30-point win over the Tigers.
Pelahatchie led 21-16 at the end of the first period and then outscored Newton 22-8 in the second to lead 43-24 at the half. Pelahatchie continued to extend the lead in the second half as they outscored Newton 17-12 in the third and 21-15 in the fourth.
Kaden Robinson led Newton with 23 points while Desmond Stevens had 19 points.
