Newton made the short trip to Lake on Friday night for a day district game.
Both Newton teams came away victorious as the Lady Tigers got 41-points from Jamiya Jones in a 51-35 win.
The Tigers got another big night from Kaden Robinson and took a 69-63 win.
Newton was scheduled to play Newton County at East Central on Monday and then return to play on Tuesday as they host Scott Central. They will finish the week on Friday at Puckett. Newton will then play at Pelahatchie on Monday, Jan. 27. Newton will then host Lake on Tuesday, Feb. 3 for senior night and then play at Scott Central on Friday, Feb. 6.
Newton girls 51, Lake 35
The Lady Tigers built an early lead and cruised to a 16-point win over the Lady Hornets in district play on Friday.
Newton led 14-9 at the end of the first period and then outscored Lake 15-7 in second to lead 29-16 at the half. Newton took the third period 15-12 and each team scored seven points in the fourth for the final margin.
Jamiya Jones had a career night with 41 points while Anniston Adkins had four points.
Newton boys 69, Lake 63
The Tigers built an early lead and held on late to take a six-point win over the Hornets on Friday.
Newton jumped out to a 22-12 lead in the first period while Lake outscored the Tigers 10-7 in the second to cut the lead to 29-22 at the half. The Tigers extended the lead in the second half and outscored the Hornets 21-15 in the third to take a 50-37 lead into the fourth. Lake battled back and outscored Newton 24-19 in the fourth for the final margin.
Kaden Robinson had another big night for the Tigers with 28 points while Kamerion Moore had 22 points.
