The Newton County Academy basketball team returned from the Christmas break but didn’t get treated kindly.
The Lady Generals lost 60-23 to Lamar School while the Generals lost 58-29.
NCA has three games scheduled this week as they play at Porters Chapel in Vicksburg on Tuesday and at Discovery Christian at Florence on Thursday. They will finish the week on Friday as they host Grace Christian.
Lamar School boys 58, NCA 29
The Raiders used a fast start as they ran away with a 29-point win over the Generals on Saturday.
Lamar jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the first period and then outscored NCA 16-14 in the second period to lead 36-19 at the half. Lamar then put the game away in the third period and outscored NCA 17-3 in the third to lead 53-22 going to the fourth. NCA took the fourth period 7-5 for the final margin.
Grady Bergeron led the Generals with seven points.
Lamar School girls 60, NCA 23
The Lady Raiders outscored the Generals in every period and rolled to a 37-point win.
Lamar jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first period and then outscored NCA 2206 in the second to lead 37-8 at the half. The Lady Raiders continued to extend their lead in the second half, outscoring the Lady Generals 12-9 in the third and 11-6 in the fourth.
Adriane Luke, Addison May and Maggie Vance each had five points apiece for the Lady Generals.
