It was an easy homecoming win for Newton County Academy on Friday night.
The Generals rolled to a 41-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 55-0 win over Kemper Academy.
The Generals improve to 4-2 on the season and will host Calhoun on Friday night.
NCA coach Stevie Nelson said the Generals handled all the distractions of homecoming week and took care of business against the Rams with a dominating performance.
“I thought we came out and took care of business,” Nelson said. “I thought we handled homecoming and all the things around homecoming very well. We didn’t let the distractions get to us. I was really proud of the defense, I thought they stayed int he back field all night long. I think they ended up with 11 yards of offense and anytime you can do that, you’ve had a good night.”
Kemper got the ball to start the game and went three and out. Cooper Savell then returned the punt 82 yards to the Kemper 3. Ty Thrash then scored on a 3-yard run and Cohen Rule’s PAT was good and NCA led 7-0.
NCA then scored on a 10-yard pass from Thrash to Savell and led 13-0.
The Generals then scored 28 points in the second quarter. The first was a 9-yard run by Thrash with a PAT by Rule to go up 20-0.
The Generals went to the air again as Thrash hit Slayden Hollingsworth on a 51-yard pass. Rule’s PAT was good and NCA led 27-0.
Thrash added a 53-yard run and then hit Savell on a 25-yard pass as the Generals led 41-0 at the half.
“Going into the game, we wanted to work on our passing game,” Nelson said. “We know we’ve got to get better there if we are going to have the kind of season that we want. I thought we completed some passes and had some success there and I was proud of that. We were very balanced on offense and hopefully we can continue to get better in the passing game.”
With a running clock in the second half, NCA added two more scores on a pair of 5-yard run by Harrison Wall and Noah Agent.
The Generals had 360 yards of total offense with 180 yards rushing and 180 yards passing. Thrash led the rushing attack with 59 yards and three TDs on four carries.
