NCA baseball
The Generals lost two of three games last week but finished with a shutout win on Saturday.
NCA opened the week with a 12-0 loss to East Rankin as they managed just one hit in four innings against the Patriots. Cooper Thrash had NCA’s only hit. Steven Duke started on the mound and took the loss while Max Ferguson also pitched 2/3 of an inning for NCA.
On Friday, NCA lost 8-3 to Leake Academy. The Generals led 2-0 after two innings before Leake scored eight straight. NCA had five hits as Steven Duke, Logan Usry and Max Ferguson each singled and scored a run. Cooper Robinson singled and drove in a run while Ty Thrash also singled. Cooper Savell started on the mound and pitched four innings and took the loss giving up seven runs on six hits with only two earned runs. Ty Thrash pitched two innings and gave up one run on one hit.
On Saturday, the Generals took a run-rule win over the Victors, thanks to an eight-run fourth inning. NCA had 11 hits as Cooper Savell was 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored. Bryce Jones was also 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Logan Usry also singled and drove in two runs.
NCA will host East Rankin on Tuesday and play at Lamar on Thursday and at Jackson Victory on Friday.
NCA tennis
NCA kicked off the tennis season on Saturday with a pair of matches against two of the largest schools in the MAIS.
NCA lost 7-2 to Hartfield and 8-1 to Madison Ridgeland Academy.
Against Hartfield, Landry Parks and Maddy Smith won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 girls doubles while Jamie Stamper and Piper Collins won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Against MRA, NCA’s only point came from Landry Parks and Maddy Smith who won 6-2, 6-1. Jamie Stamper and Piper Collins lost 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, falling in a third-set tiebreaker.
