Newton County E-911 is strongly encouraging all Newton County residents to sign up for a free Emergency Health Profile at www.emergencyprofile.org, a secure digital tool that can provide life-saving medical information to dispatchers during a 911 call.
The service, powered by RapidSOS, allows individuals to create an online profile linked to their personal phone number. When a 911 call is placed from that number, critical details — such as allergies, medications, medical conditions, disabilities, and emergency contacts — automatically appear on the dispatcher’s screen.
“This information pops up instantly through RapidSOS, a trusted public-safety tech company that partners with over 5,700 911 centers, even if the caller is unable to speak,” explained 911 Coordinator Brooke Hanner of Newton County. “This helps us at Newton County E-911 by giving us instant details, which allows us to send the right help quickly. And it benefits the caller because responders already know their needs, which can speed up treatment and improve safety.”
The program is completely free, with no subscription or fees, and profiles can be easily updated or deleted at any time. Residents are advised to register using their own phone number. When creating a profile for someone else — such as an elderly parent or child — users should enter that person’s phone number to ensure the correct information displays during their 911 call. For children’s profiles, a special section must be completed.
RapidSOS, the company behind the technology, is a trusted public-safety partner working with more than 5,700 emergency centers across the country. All data is stored in an encrypted database and used solely for emergency response purposes.
Although the service launched nationwide around mid-2020 during the pandemic, adoption is still growing. Newton County E-911 has used it only a handful of times so far due to only a few residents signing up, but dispatchers report it has already proven valuable by providing immediate access to callers’ medical histories.
One additional benefit: the profiles work in most areas of the United States, making them especially useful for travelers.
iPhone users are also reminded to complete the Medical ID section in their Health app, which can similarly share vital information with emergency responders.
“Protect yourself and your loved ones by being prepared,” Hanner urged. “Taking a few minutes to set up an Emergency Health Profile and Medical ID could save time — and save lives.”
