Newton County High School Athletes were honored tonight with a ring ceremony for capturing the 2025 Girls Powerlifting state championship in their respective weight classes.
Mackenzie Platt (left) has been a part of the Girls Powerlifting team for four years with a proven track record of being one of the best each year in her weight class. Mackenzie’s totals for the 2025 state championship meet were 390lbs. on Squat, 140lbs. on Bench Press, and 350lbs. on Deadlift, with a meet total of 880lbs.
Sakiya Wesley has been a part of the Girls Powerlifting team for one year. Sakiya is a multi-sport athlete. Sakiya’s totals for the 2025 state championship meet were 340lbs. on Squat, 125lbs. on Bench, and 375lbs. on Deadlift, with a meet total of 840lbs.
The Newton County Girls Powerlifting team is coached by Coach Lucas Poole.
